Call to Action

NHS England’s Community Pharmacy Call to Action is our biggest opportunity yet to shape community pharmacy’s future. This consultation gives us all the chance to have a say in the development of future NHS strategy by telling the national commissioner how we believe community pharmacy services can improve the health of the population and patient care. This is not just another consultation; it really will be our best chance to bring about major changes in primary care and pharmacy policy for the next five years.

If NHS England is going to enable community pharmacy to be at the heart of integrated out-of-hospital services, that deliver better health outcomes for patients, then it’s important that it receives as many responses as possible to its consultation.

There are a number awareness events, and webinars, taking place nationwide to help explain more about the Call to Action, and you can find out what’s going on in your area:

In order to help you respond to the Call to Action, Pharmacy Voice has produced a tool to capture what you and your colleagues (members, teams, staff, employees) want the future of community pharmacy to be. You can download the toolkit here.

The tool is designed to help you think about how you might respond to each of the four questions, and provides examples as to what you might say, for example:

  • Should patients be referred to pharmacies for minor ailments services, emergency contraception and  smoking cessations services?
  • Do you want patients to enter their own information into patient records that can be accessed by community pharmacists?
